Jennifer Mairo to Speak at AWiM25 in Addis Ababa

From 4–5 December 2025, the African Union Commission headquarters in Addis Ababa will host the 9th edition of the African Women in Media (AWiM) Conference, a landmark gathering dedicated to reshaping the conversation around gender and media across the continent. With the theme “Beyond Commitments: Advancing Policies for Gender-Safe Media,” AWiM25 will convene journalists, policymakers, academics and advocates to build practical strategies that move policy into practice.

Jennifer Mairo, Chief Executive Officer of Joy, Inc., will be speaking at this year’s conference. As a leader committed to elevating stories of justice, resilience and equality, Jennifer will join a distinguished lineup to share concrete ideas on how media institutions, creators and advocates can translate commitments into meaningful policy shifts that ensure safer, more inclusive newsrooms and platforms for women across Africa.

AWiM25 is designed as more than a conference, it is a working forum where Communities of Practice will form around shared goals to sustain action beyond Addis Ababa. By locating the conversation inside the corridors of the African Union and pairing grassroots urgency with policy leverage, AWiM25 aims to turn ideas into systems that protect women and transform media cultures continent-wide.
